    Lascaux caves II

    The building blocks of Art.

The mystical Lascaux grotto, discovered quite accidentally in 1940, is a 250-metre corridor leading back through time. Children and those with a palate for history will be enthralled to walk in the footsteps of man's earliest ancestors (or rather, to wander the Lascaux II cave, a picture-perfect replica of the original which is closed to the public due to the fragility of the artwork therein).

The original wall-paintings, dated as far back as 15 000 BC, represent bisons, bulls, human figures and extinct creatures. To witness this evokes a deep and powerful feeling of being in touch with a faraway and long-lost version of ourselves.
